What is Paint Correction?
Paint correction is a detailed process designed to restore the finish of your vehicle's paintwork by removing imperfections such as swirl marks, scratches, oxidation, water spots, and other defects. It involves using specialized tools and compounds to gently polish the paint's surface, smoothing it out and enhancing its clarity, depth, and shine.
Stages of Paint Correction:
Paint correction is typically performed in stages (often referred to as "stages" of correction) depending on the severity of the defects in the paint and the desired results. Each stage varies in intensity, with the more advanced stages offering deeper correction.
Stage 1 - One-Step Correction (Light Correction)
- What it involves: This is a light polish, designed to remove light swirl marks, fine scratches, and surface imperfections. It’s ideal for newer vehicles or those with minimal paint defects.
- When to choose it: If your car has relatively minor swirl marks, light scratches, or dullness but no deep, visible imperfections.
- Result: A noticeable improvement in gloss and clarity, but some deeper defects may still be present.
Stage 2 - Two-Step Correction (Medium Correction):
- What it involves: This stage uses a more aggressive compound in the first step to remove deeper scratches and defects, followed by a finer polish to refine the surface and restore gloss.
- When to choose it: If your vehicle has more noticeable imperfections such as medium swirl marks, scratches, or oxidized paint.
- Result: A much more refined finish with fewer defects, bringing out a deeper shine and clarity.
Stage 3 - Three-Step Correction (Heavy Correction):
- What it involves: This is the most intensive stage, using multiple compounds in three steps: a heavy-cut compound to eliminate deep defects, a polishing stage to refine the surface, and a final refining polish to perfect the paintwork.
- When to choose it: If your vehicle has significant paint defects, deep swirl marks, heavy scratches, or oxidation. Ideal for older cars or those with more severe paint imperfections.
- Result: The highest level of correction, producing a flawless, mirror-like finish with minimal to no visible imperfections.
